Viking Neptun Joins DEME's Cable Installation Fleet

The DP3 offshore installation vessel, Viking Neptun, has recently arrived at DEME's base in Vlissingen, Netherlands. This marks a significant addition to DEME's cable installation capacity.

DEME, a leading player in the global offshore market, entered into an agreement with Eidesvik at the beginning of last year to acquire the Viking Neptun. The vessel will join DEME's fleet, strengthening the company's capabilities in the offshore wind sector.

The Viking Neptun is a versatile vessel, suitable for the construction of floating wind farms. It has served in the offshore wind sector for several years and has worked on notable projects such as the German Wikinger and Merkur offshore wind farms.

The Viking Neptun is equipped with an unobstructed deck and a 400-tonne Active Heave Compensated Knuckle Boom crane, making it ideal for cable installation and other offshore operations. It will also be equipped with a cable installation system similar to the Living Stone, further enhancing DEME's cable installation capacity.

DEME plans to boost the Viking Neptun's cable capacity by adding a second, 8,000-tonne cable turntable on deck. This upgrade will allow the vessel to handle larger and more complex cable installation projects.

The Viking Neptun will join the installation vessel Living Stone at DEME's base. Together, these vessels will provide DEME with a formidable capability in the offshore wind sector, enabling the company to take on larger and more complex projects.

The Viking Neptun is not the only vessel in DEME's fleet. It will join a fleet that includes the state-of-the-art offshore installation vessel Orion, which is equipped with a 6,000-tonne crane and a 12,000-tonne turntable.

The arrival of the Viking Neptun at DEME's base in Vlissingen marks a significant milestone in DEME's strategy to strengthen its position in the offshore wind sector. With the addition of the Viking Neptun, DEME is well-positioned to take on the challenges of the future and continue to lead the way in the offshore wind industry.
