Vocational training commences for 861 youths in Ingolstadt
In the bustling city of Ingolstadt, a concerning trend has emerged as every second training company reports unfilled training positions. According to a recent press release from the IHK for Munich and Upper Bavaria, as of the end of August, there are over 222 unfilled positions in companies across the city.
The new training year, which commences on September 1st, is no exception. This year, 861 young people in Ingolstadt will begin their training in an IHK profession. Despite the difficult economic environment, companies in Ingolstadt have continued to invest in the specialists of tomorrow.
The primary reason for the unfilled positions is a lack of suitable applicants. Companies generally have a good impression of applicants' English skills, teamwork skills, and IT and media competence. However, 86% of companies complain about deficits in applicants' soft skills such as resilience, discipline, performance readiness, and commitment.
Schools, parents, and young people are equally challenged in providing better vocational orientation. The economy demands better vocational orientation with more practical and reality-based content and commitment. Franz Schabmueller, chairman of the IHK regional committee Ingolstadt, has emphasised the importance of young people having good training readiness.
In Ingolstadt, there are around 60 different IHK professions in which young people are currently completing training. The most popular IHK profession among young men is industrial mechanic, and among young women, it is office management assistant. The top 5 IHK training professions in Ingolstadt are industrial mechanic, IT specialist, motor vehicle mechatronics technician, mechatronics technician, and bank clerk.
The IHK accounts for around 60% of all training contracts and has 308 active training companies in industry, trade, and the service sector in Ingolstadt. Notable among these are Volkswagen Group Services and the BRK Kreisverband Ingolstadt, which currently offer open training positions for the 2026 training start, with many more vacancies available, such as for the role of Bürokaufmann/-frau.
Despite the decrease in the proportion of new trainees with university entrance qualifications in Upper Bavaria compared to last year, with a figure of 17%, Franz Schabmueller has wished a successful start to the new training year. No reductions in training offers were made by companies, indicating a continued commitment to investing in the next generation of professionals.
