Vodafone constructs in Salzwedel: Initial limitations followed by enhanced mobile coverage
Vodafone Germany Announces Major Network Expansion and Mobile Station Modernization
Vodafone Germany, in partnership with OXG, is embarking on a significant network expansion project, aiming to build up to seven million new FTTH (Fiber to the Home) fiber connections in the coming years. This project is a response to the growing mobile data traffic, particularly in the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel district, which is currently growing at an annual rate of over 30%.
As part of this expansion, Vodafone GmbH will carry out construction work at a local mobile station in Salzwedel from September 8 to September 19, 2025. The project is an important part of Vodafone's network expansion in the district, with the aim of modernizing the mobile station and strengthening broadband capacities.
The construction work will include the installation of additional broadband antennas to create a new mobile data highway. This upgrade is expected to improve the coverage and speed of Vodafone's 5G network, which currently reaches over 90% of the population in Germany.
Emergency calls to 112 will not be affected during the construction work. However, mobile traffic will be routed via surrounding stations, which may cause temporary restrictions for individual customers, ranging from a weaker network to no reception at all during the shutdown period.
Vodafone is the largest national subsidiary of the Vodafone Group, one of the largest telecommunications companies in the world, with over 300 million mobile customers worldwide and connecting over 175 million devices to the internet of things.
