Volkswagen Group significantly boosts electric vehicle sales in Europe in the first half of 2025, achieving a near-doubling, while global sales surge by over 47% during the same period.
The automotive industry is witnessing a significant shift towards electric vehicles (EVs), and the Volkswagen Group and its divisions are at the forefront of this transformation.
In the first half of 2025, Volkswagen Passenger Cars delivered 192,600 BEVs, marking a 14.3% increase compared to the same period last year. The ID.3 led the charge with 60,700 vehicles, while the VW ID.4 / ID.5 duo took the lead globally with 84,900 units.
The region with the highest percentage growth in BEV sales within the Volkswagen Group was the United Kingdom, with nearly 35% growth in new registrations of battery electric vehicles (BEVs). Europe accounted for nearly 75% of Volkswagen's total electric sales, with deliveries surging by 89% year-on-year.
The ID. Buzz and its Cargo variant contributed to a growth of 10,800 units in electric vehicle sales. The Audi Q4 e-tron (incl. Sportback) sold 44,600 units, and the Porsche Macan EV made a powerful comeback with 25,900 vehicles, thanks to the electric Macan.
The Skoda Enyaq (incl. Coupé) and VW ID.7 (incl. Tourer) each delivered 38,700 units, and Skoda doubled its BEV sales to 73,000 units thanks to the Elroq and Enyaq. The Cupra Born rounded out the top 10 with 22,100 units, and SEAT / Cupra doubled sales to 37,600 units (+105.3%).
In commercial vehicles, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles delivered 25,500 electric vans, representing a 73.4% increase compared to H1 2024. The Traton Group, a division of Volkswagen, delivered 1,300 electric trucks in H1 2025, a 116.7% increase compared to H1 2024, with BEVs making up 10.57% of that total, up from 7% a year earlier. MAN, a brand under the Traton Group, saw a significant increase in electric truck sales from 240 to 810 units (+237.5%).
Scania, another brand under the Traton Group, doubled its electric truck sales from 110 to 220 units (+100%). The Audi Q6 e-tron (incl. Sportback) and Skoda Elroq were new additions to the list with 36,500 and 34,300 units respectively.
Fleet operators across Europe and beyond are increasingly switching to electric vehicles, giving Volkswagen traction in commercial applications such as last-mile delivery and urban logistics. Porsche saw explosive growth in BEV sales from 9,000 to 34,200 units (+279%) due to the electric Macan.
Across all markets and drivetrains, Volkswagen delivered 4,4 million vehicles in the first half of 2025. The electrification of heavy-duty vehicles is showing rapid progress within the Traton Group, and the trend towards electric vehicles continues to gather pace.
