Voting in the 2025 local elections: Commencement of the mail-in ballot station - internet submission allowed for applications

The city of Lünen is gearing up for its municipal and Integration Council election on September 14, 2025. Here's what you need to know.

The election will see two candidates vying for the mayoral position: Martina Förster-Teutenberg, an independent candidate with a background in city planning, and Dr. Christian Klicki, the CDU party candidate.

The voting process will take place at the mail-in voting office, located on the ground floor of the North Wing in the town hall of Lünen. Rooms 31 and 32 will be allocated for the Integration Council election, while rooms 13 to 19 will be reserved for the municipal election.

Voters can apply for mail-in voting using the voting notice they receive, either online at www.our website/voting permit, by scanning the QR code, filling out and returning the form, or by submitting an application in writing, by email, or in person. It's important to note that voters must choose the correct election (municipal or Integration Council) when applying.

Voters in Lünen are reminded to present a valid ID document when applying in person or picking up documents at the mail-in voting office. Accepted forms of ID include a driver's license, passport, or passport with a residence permit.

For those who prefer to vote in person, polling stations will be open on September 14 from 8 am to 6 pm.

The mail-in voting office will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 am to 6 pm, on Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 am to 12:30 pm, and on Mondays from 8 am to 4 pm. On the Friday before the election (September 12), the office will be open from 8 am to 3 pm.

Eligible voters for the municipal election must be German citizens or EU citizens, have reached the age of 16, have been living in Lünen for at least 16 days, and are not disqualified from voting. For the Integration Council election, all foreign residents who are at least 16 years old, have been legally residing in Germany for at least a year, have been registered in Lünen with their primary residence for at least 16 days before the election, and are not disqualified from voting are eligible to vote.

It's worth noting that if no absolute majority is achieved in the first round of the mayoral or district administrator election, a runoff election may be held on September 28, 2025.

In addition to the mayoral election, voters will also elect a city council, the district council, the district administrator, the Ruhr parliament (Regional Association Ruhr), and the Integration Council.
