Water contaminated with bacteria: Scale operators should boil water before use
The picturesque town of Schwangau, nestled in the heart of Bavaria, has been facing an unexpected challenge. A routine check has revealed the presence of Enterococci bacteria in the drinking water system of the Schwangau municipality.
In response, the Schwangau waterworks has sprung into action, actively working to identify and resolve the contamination. The public health department of the Ostallgäu district has issued a boil water order, advising residents to boil their water before drinking or cooking until further notice.
The bacterial contamination does not pose a risk when showering, as long as no water is ingested. However, in the worst-case scenario, gastrointestinal issues could occur. The source of the intestinal bacteria in the water network remains unknown, but it is suspected to be of environmental or fecal origins.
To ensure the safety of the drinking water, the Schwangau waterworks is conducting extensive tests. The resolution of the contamination will depend on the results of these ongoing tests. If the tests show that there are no more bacteria in the pipeline network, the boil water order can be lifted.
In the meantime, the Schwangau waterworks will take further samples to identify the source of the bacterial contamination. They are also committed to ensuring the safety and quality of the drinking water for the community.
In light of the current situation, it is recommended that baby formula in Schwangau be made with mineral water instead of the contaminated water. Boiling water will kill the bacteria and make it safe for drinking and cooking.
The Schwangau waterworks is working diligently to restore the safety of the drinking water and will keep the community updated on any developments. Until then, residents are asked to adhere to the boil water order for their safety.
