Weekend Shutdown: Concurrent Closure of A7 and S-Bahn Railways
The A7 highway will be closed between the Heimfeld and Bahrenfeld junctions from Friday, April 5th, 10 pm, to Monday, April 8th, 5 am, in the direction of Norden. This closure will have a significant impact on the S-Bahn service between Hammerbrook and Wilhelmsburg.
Deutsche Bahn, the responsible authority overseeing the planning, execution, and commissioning of the S-Bahn reconstruction project, has announced that train traffic on lines S3 and S5 will be affected, leading to the suspension of service between Hammerbrook and Wilhelmsburg.
During the closure, buses will be used as a replacement for the S-Bahn service. However, it's important to note that the replacement service stops may not always be located directly at the respective stations. Passengers are advised to check the specific stop locations before their journey.
In addition, the Elbtunnel will also be closed in both directions from Saturday, April 6th, 8 pm, to Sunday, April 7th, 9 am. The Elbtunnel closure will last for 55 hours, from Friday, April 5th, to Sunday, April 7th.
A second closure of the S-Bahn between Hammerbrook and Wilhelmsburg will occur from Saturday, April 13th, 1 am, to Monday, April 15th, 1:30 am. During this second closure, buses will once again be used as a replacement for the S-Bahn service.
Traffic signs will be hung on the A7 to guide motorists during the closure. No specific information has been given about alternative routes or public transportation during the closures. Passengers are encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly and allow extra time, as the journey time for the replacement service is estimated to be up to 20 minutes longer.
It's worth noting that after the closure, software adjustments will be necessary for the Elbtunnel. During the closures, the buses will not stop at the Elbbrücken station.
These closures and disruptions are part of ongoing efforts to improve the infrastructure of the A7 and S-Bahn services in the Hammerbrook to Wilhelmsburg area. Passengers are advised to stay updated on the latest information and plan their journeys accordingly.
