Weekly insights for optimizing your streaming experience
In the world of entertainment, two new shows have recently been added to streaming platforms, offering a mix of comedy and drama for viewers.
First, "The Paper," a mockumentary produced by the creators of "The Office," is a humorous take on a documentary. The show focuses on a struggling newspaper in the American Midwest called the "Toledo Truth-Teller." With a rich history but facing a tough present, the team is determined to get the newspaper back on track. The show is available to stream on Sky and Wow since September 5th, and features a star-studded cast including Sabrina Impacciatore, Chelsea Frei, and Domhnall Gleeson.
On a different note, "Below - Almost Eye to Eye," a Norwegian dramedy series, is now available in the ARD-Mediathek since August 29th. The show is set in the United States, specifically in the American Midwest, and tells the story of Fanny, a daredevil who becomes paralyzed after a traffic accident. As the series unfolds, flashbacks gradually reveal the tragic guilt that haunts Fanny. The show is a six-episode series that explores the concept of being "below" unconventionally, and is sensitively and humorously staged by director Siri Seljeseth. Maria Austgulen plays the complex character of Fanny, portraying both vulnerability and harshness.
Meanwhile, moviegoers can look forward to the British film "Silent Night - And Tomorrow We Die," available on Paramount+ from September 12th. This black comedy about the apocalypse features Keira Knightley, Roman Griffin Davis, Lily-Rose Depp, and Annabelle Wells, among others. The story revolves around Nell, Simon, and their son Art, who host a Christmas dinner every year. However, this year, an environmental catastrophe is imminent, and this dinner will be their last night. The film is not related to the earlier mentioned show "The Paper."
In the German release of "Silent Night - And Tomorrow We Die," the main roles are played by Susan Engels, Gerrit Schmidt-Foß, and Raymond Thiry. The goal of the film's team is to create a memorable and poignant portrayal of the end of the world, while still maintaining a sense of humour and hope.
Whether you're in the mood for a heartwarming dramedy, a thought-provoking mockumentary, or a unique take on the apocalypse, these new releases offer something for everyone.
