In Israel, the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into public services is being hailed as an opportunity to write a new and promising chapter in the country's history. This view is shared by Nir Yanovsky-Dagan, head of the Innovation, Data, and Artificial Intelligence department at Israel's National Digital Agency.

The potential benefits of AI in public services are vast, extending beyond just the reduction of bureaucracy. It can help tackle pressing societal issues such as healthcare, education, and public safety. This forward-thinking approach was proposed by the Israeli Innovation Authority.

Israel's status as the "Startup Nation" has contributed significantly to its growth over the past decades. This creative and innovative hub has seen the development of AI tools promising to revolutionise various sectors, including healthcare, education, and social services. The results are often better than what humans can achieve.

However, the hype surrounding such tools can sometimes lead to disappointment. A case in point is Build.AI, a startup that developed an AI tool promising to generate apps quickly. It was later revealed that behind the tool were hundreds of human programmers in India, leading to the collapse of the company.

Despite this setback, the focus should be on moving forward responsibly, transparently, and ethically. Large-scale pilot programs in public services should be launched promptly, focusing on improving services rather than just reducing bureaucracy.

AI should not only be used for efficiency but also to tackle central societal challenges such as healthcare, education, and public safety. For instance, AI can play a crucial role in PTSD diagnosis, grant management, and addiction support.

A McKinsey survey found that employees use AI tools more frequently than their managers realise, often covering their tracks. As the covert use of AI by employees is discovered, it will reshape the workplace, blurring the lines between human and artificial creativity even further.

In 2025, we are entering an era where the tools we create are not just efficient but also creative and intelligent. It's an exciting time, and Israel is at the forefront of this revolution. The responsible and ethical integration of AI into crucial sectors can harness a new wave of creativity to address societal challenges and shape Israel's future.
