Wind turbines in Brandenburg intermittently illuminate at night solely when needed for functionality. - Wind turbines in Brandenburg illuminate only during nighttime when required
The Ministry of Infrastructure in Potsdam has announced a significant change for wind energy facilities in Brandenburg. Starting soon, the wind turbines in the region will operate a demand-controlled night marking system. This system aims to reduce light pollution from wind turbines at night, while maintaining safety for aircraft.
Under the new system, the warning lights on wind energy facilities will only blink at night on demand. This change is expected to improve the night-time visibility of aircraft around these facilities. Continuous blinking will only remain where it is necessary for flight safety reasons, such as near airports or helicopter landing pads.
Infrastructure Minister Detlef Tabbert stated that continuous nighttime blinking of wind energy facilities can be disruptive to residents. He views the implementation of this demand-controlled night marking as a sensible compromise that balances safety and environmental concerns.
The demand-controlled night marking for wind energy facilities is aimed at ensuring that the majority of wind turbines in Brandenburg no longer have to blink continuously at night. This system will control the blinking of warning lights on wind turbines based on aircraft approaches.
It's important to note that this change applies specifically to wind energy facilities in the Brandenburg region. Other types of infrastructure in the area will not be affected.
However, the implementation of the demand-controlled night marking system has been delayed due to technical bottlenecks and lack of capacity. Once fully operational, the change is expected to contribute positively to the reduction of light pollution in Brandenburg's night sky.
The warning lights on wind energy facilities in Brandenburg will turn on only when an aircraft approaches, ensuring a safer and more environmentally friendly approach to wind energy production in the region.
