Wine Bar and Café Locket: Establishment for Beverages and Light Bites

In the heart of St James's, London, a new dining destination has emerged. Locket's Café and Wine Bar, located in the former Economist building on Smithson Plaza, offers a unique dining experience that blends the charm of the sixties with contemporary elegance.

The design of this chic café and wine bar is the brainchild of Fran Hickman Design & Interiors. The interiors explore a sixties theme, with copper, cork, and amber resin tables, creating an ambiance reminiscent of the era. The floor-to-ceiling glass windows, decorative table lights, and larger banquettes in pale teal leather add to the overall warmth and sophistication of the space.

The bathrooms, tiled in hand glazed ceramic tiles, are inspired by mid-century Swiss Artist Sophie Taeuber Arp. The result is a patchwork of colours consistent with the overall scheme, adding a touch of artistic flair to the venue.

The monochrome graphic flooring, inspired by Sudgen House and Villa Borsani, brings a rhythm to the space. The fibreglass globe pedant lights, designed bespoke for Locket's Café and Wine Bar by Fran Hickman Design & Interiors, add warmth and further contribute to the rhythmic feel of the café.

The bar, with its down lit scalloped cork fronting and a green veined marble top, is a standout feature of the café.

Menu highlights at Locket's Café and Wine Bar include burrata with butternut squash and pumpkin seeds, and creamy polenta with mushrooms and parmesan. The café and wine bar serves breakfast pastries, teas, coffees, smoothies, and juices during the day, and light lunches, salads, and European-inspired small plates at night.

Locket's Café and Wine Bar is a new venture for Locket Hambro, the great granddaughter of Olaf Hambro, who once ran Wiltons, a famous St James's restaurant. Max Dignam of Fran Hickman Design & Interiors worked on the project and aimed to create a warm, inviting, and functional space.

According to Max Dignam, it was a pleasure working with Locket Hambro and her team on the Locket's Café and Wine Bar project. Dignam stated that the café and wine bar has been well received by both locals and visitors.

Locket's Café and Wine Bar offers a refreshing change in an area known for more formal dining, providing a welcoming and vibrant atmosphere for all to enjoy. The search results do not provide information about the opening date of Locket's Café and Wine Bar.
