Winter Sports Competition Khelo India Winter Games to Commence at Gulmarg from March 9th
Preparations are well underway for the second leg of the fifth Khelo India Winter Games (KIWG), which is scheduled to take place at Gulmarg from March 9 to 12, 2025. The multi-sport event, which has been held annually at Gulmarg since 2021, is expected to attract nearly 700 participants, including athletes, technical staff, and delegates.
Gulmarg, located 51-km west of Srinagar, is Kashmir's premier ski resort and will provide a stunning backdrop for the various sports events taking place exclusively on snow or ice. In addition to ice hockey, figure skating, and speed skating, Gulmarg offers various sports like skiing, alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, snow rugby, ice stock sport, snow baseball, snowshoe running, and mountaineering.
The event was initially scheduled for February 22 to 25 but was deferred due to poor snowfall. However, all required measures are in place to ensure a smooth conduct of the event, and the organisers are confident that the event will be a success.
The second leg of the KIWG 2025 at Gulmarg will feature a variety of sports events, with the remaining participants expected to be coaches, instructors, and other support staff. The event is expected to provide a seamless experience for athletes, instructors, and other visitors.
Meanwhile, the country has been dealing with heavy rains in Maharashtra, where eight people have died and over 5.4 Lakh Hectares of crops have been damaged. The next-gen GST reforms, as stated by FM Nirmala Sitharaman, are expected to bring relief to the common man and MSMEs, providing a much-needed boost to the economy.
The second phase of the fifth Khelo India Winter Games in Gulmarg is scheduled to take place from March 13 to March 17, 2023. The event is an important platform for promoting winter sports in India and fostering a culture of sportsmanship and healthy competition among young athletes.
