Woltemade transfers from VfB to Newcastle United
In a surprising turn of events, 23-year-old striker Nick Woltemade has left VfB Stuttgart to join Newcastle United. The deal, reported to be worth up to 90 million euros, marks the most expensive sale in VfB Stuttgart's history.
Woltemade had initially looked set to stay with Stuttgart, but the recent turn of events has seen him move to the English Premier League. Alexander Wehrle, VfB Stuttgart's CEO, explained the decision as being in the interest of the overall responsibility for the club.
Woltemade joined Stuttgart from Werder Bremen last summer without a transfer fee. In his debut season, he scored 12 goals in 29 Bundesliga games, impressing many with his consistent performances. However, a turnaround in the transfer saga became public on Thursday evening, leading to the agreement of a sale.
Sebastian HoeneΓ, Stuttgart's coach, described Woltemade's departure as a "severe loss." He had previously stated that Woltemade would play for the team in this season. Despite his sporting value, the decision was made due to the overall responsibility for VfB Stuttgart.
Newcastle United's trainer, Eddie Howe, is excited about Woltemade's arrival. He stated that Woltemade meets exactly the requirements the club has been looking for in attack. The transfer deal between Woltemade and Newcastle is a long-term contract, reportedly running until 30 June 2031.
Woltemade was also courted by Bayern Munich, but he has now chosen to join Newcastle United. The German striker expressed his gratitude, stating that everyone at Newcastle has made him feel welcome and it already feels like a family.
The Woltemade transfer case was a dominant topic on the transfer market in recent weeks. Several offers were made, but Stuttgart considered them too low. The deal between Woltemade and Newcastle was finalized after he was relieved of training and match operations for corresponding talks.
Despite the departure of their star striker, Stuttgart fans can look forward to an exciting season ahead. The club has already strengthened its squad with the signing of several promising young players. As for Woltemade, he is eager to make his mark in the English Premier League and help Newcastle United secure a top-half finish.
