Women's "Courage to Stand Against!" workshop, slated for 2025, will be facilitated and executed by the Police Department.

The Celle Police Station has announced that it will be conducting five self-defense courses for women in the fall and winter of 2025/2026. These courses, known as "Mut zur Gegenwehr" (Courage to Resist), aim to teach participants strategies to protect and defend themselves against violent situations, inappropriate remarks, or degrading comments.

The courses will take place at Jägerstraße 1 in Celle, from 18:30 to 21:30 each evening. The first course, Course 1, will occur from October 30, 2025, to November 3, 2025, followed by Course 2 from November 19, 2025, to November 23, 2025. Course 3 will take place from January 7, 2026, to January 13, 2026, and Course 4 from January 29, 2026, to February 2, 2026. The final course, Course 5, will occur from February 18, 2026, to February 23, 2026.

Each course consists of four evenings, and a flat fee of 25 euros is charged for each course, to be paid at the beginning. The courses are designed to help women gain or regain self-confidence and empower them to take control of their safety. Participants will not only learn physical strategies for self-defense but also learn to raise their voices and set clear boundaries.

Kathrin Hilgert, a contact person at the Celle Police Station, is involved in police communication and prevention programs such as the self-defense courses. She can be reached by phone at 05141-277104 or by email at [email protected] for further questions or registration. Registration for the courses can also be done via email at [email protected].

Unfortunately, investigations show that women in Celle have been victims of violence, sexual touching, verbal harassment, and physical attacks. The police station believes that resistance is worthwhile in violent situations, and these courses aim to equip women with the knowledge and skills to defend themselves. The course will address numbers, data, and facts about self-defense, as well as common myths about the topic.

The Celle Police Station encourages all women in the city and district to take advantage of these courses and to prioritise their safety and wellbeing.
