Women's Hockey team at Holy Cross claims maiden victory in playoff matchup
The Holy Cross Crusaders have had a remarkable season in the competitive world of ice hockey, with both the men's and women's teams making significant strides in the 2024-2025 campaign.
In the women's team, they finished the season on a high note, securing a record of 2-1 against Hockey East rival Boston University. The first meeting between the two teams was a thrilling encounter, with Lane Lewis scoring within the first 30 seconds of the game, setting the tone for an exciting match. Tamara Giaquinto and Julia Shaunessy responded for Boston University in the first period, but the Holy Cross team fought back, with Alexia Moreau scoring two goalsโone in each the second and third periods. Millie Sirum added another goal in the third period, securing the victory for Holy Cross.
Madison Beck, the Holy Cross goalkeeper, was exceptional in the game against Boston University, saving an impressive 37 out of 39 shots, including some crucial saves that kept the team in the lead.
Unfortunately, Sirum and Beck, along with several other seniors, will not return to the Holy Cross Women's Hockey team next season. Lilly Feeney, a senior forward and one of the captains, has been a key player for the team throughout the season.
The Holy Cross Women's Hockey team ended their season against the top-seeded #11 UConn Huskies, playing two straight games at the Hart Center against Hockey East foes. However, the results of these games were not available at the time of writing.
On the men's side, the Holy Cross team started the season a little behind, but they have shown great improvement throughout the season. The team's progress and the success of the women's team highlight the strong Esports programme at Holy Cross.
As the 2024-2025 season draws to a close, the Holy Cross Crusaders can look back on a season filled with hard-fought battles, team spirit, and personal growth. The future looks bright for both the men's and women's ice hockey teams, and fans are eagerly anticipating the upcoming seasons.
