Women's volleyball team faces alarming injuries at Igor: Beyond Bajien's halt, Squarcini is affected too

Igor Novara, the Italian volleyball club led by Fabio Leonardi, finds itself in a challenging situation with two of its middle blockers, Federica Squarcini and Indy Bajiens, sidelined due to injuries.

During a training session last week, Squarcini sustained a minor injury to her right knee, requiring a minor arthroscopic cleaning procedure to remove a detached cartilage fragment. The club's general manager, Igor Enrico Marchioni, has assured that Squarcini's injury is not severe and she is expected to return in about fifteen to twenty days.

Bajiens, on the other hand, is dealing with an abdominal injury carried over from her time with the national team. Further tests have not shown any muscle damage, but an accurate timeline for her return will be possible in the coming weeks as she begins her recovery.

This leaves Lorenzo Bernardi's team with only two middle blockers, Bonifacio and Costantini, for the coming weeks. Costantini took a knock on a finger during training but is training regularly. However, no new information about the severity of Costantini's injury was provided.

In light of these injuries, the club is carefully evaluating the market for potential temporary additions. The club's press office has confirmed that they are considering returning to the market for a temporary fifth middle blocker to strengthen their team. The name of the potentially market-traded player is not yet disclosed.

It's worth noting that Dana Schmit's arrival was on a temporary basis to help the team while waiting for Carlotta Cambi's return from the national team.

Igor Novara is not the only club facing challenges. Their rivals, Indy Bajiens' previous team, have also been hit by injuries. Two middle blockers, Squarcini and Bajiens, have had to sit out due to injuries at Igor Novara, causing troubles for the club.

As the volleyball season progresses, Igor Novara will have to navigate these challenges with patience and strategic decision-making to ensure they remain competitive.
