Workers' Radiation Protection Proposal Requested from Commission for Proposed Directive on Risk Management
In a bid to ensure road safety, the Gütersloh Police conducted traffic checks in the towns of Rheda-Wiedenbrück and Rietberg on May 21st as part of the Radschlag action.
The checks in Rheda-Wiedenbrück revealed a total of 41 offenses, with cyclists traveling on the wrong side of the road, phone usage, seat belt violations, and speeding being the most common infractions. Interestingly, the highest speed recorded in Rheda-Wiedenbrück was a staggering 59 km/h in a 30 km/h zone.
Meanwhile, in Rietberg, a total of 78 road users were inspected between 6:30 AM and 12:00 PM, but no speeding offenses were detected. Instead, A total of 38 offenses were detected, primarily relating to the prohibited use of mobile phones during driving and seat belt violations.
The Gütersloh police will continue the Radschlag action in 2025 to further reduce accidents involving cyclists. In 2024, the number of injured cyclists and e-bikers decreased from 611 in 2023 to 540, suggesting the action plan is having a positive impact.

It's worth noting that one driver in Rheda-Wiedenbrück was a wanted person with an arrest warrant for a fine. The head of the Gütersloh Police Directorate responsible for continuing the Radschlag action plan in 2025 is not explicitly mentioned, but Martin Huber, the new head of a police directorate in the region (Bielefeld), is a prominent police leader nearby, suggesting he may be involved.
