Workplace assault in Abu Dhabi results in woman receiving Dh200,000 compensation
In a landmark decision, the Abu Dhabi Civil Family Court has ordered a woman to pay Dh200,000 in damages to a colleague she assaulted at work. The court's judgment, which cited provisions of the Civil Transactions Law, was based on the unlawful act causing measurable harm, as supported by the criminal judgment and medical reports.
The defendant, who was previously convicted of assault by the Abu Dhabi Criminal Court, was found liable for causing harm to another in a violent workplace altercation. The case was reported by Arabic daily Emirat Al Youm.
The injured employee had filed a civil lawsuit seeking Dh300,000 in compensation for both material and moral damages, including "sadness and pain." The court partly upheld the employee's claim, awarding two-thirds of the amount sought.
In addition to the damages, the defendant was also ordered to pay court fees and legal costs. The damages covered both physical injury and emotional distress, reflecting the severity of the assault.
