Workplace Diversity Celebration: Fostering Democratic Ideals within the Professional Sphere
On September 8, 2025, the event series titled "Showing Attitude - Standing Up for Democratic Values in the Workplace" will take place at the New Town Hall, Göttingen. The event, part of the 13th national Diversity Day, is open to all employees of the university, city, and county, students, and interested members of the public.
Dr. Daniela Marx from the University of Göttingen's Equality of Opportunity and Diversity Office has announced three in-depth workshops for participants. Marlene Göhl from the Anne Frank Educational Center e.V. will deliver the opening lecture titled "Courage for Democracy - Together for Diversity and Cohesion".
The workshops aim to provide answers to questions about combating discrimination and standing up against anti-democratic statements. They will offer tips on reacting to racist remarks at work, managing anti-discrimination, and counteracting anti-democratic tendencies in daily work. After the lecture, small moderated groups will discuss focus topics such as anti-discrimination and employee co-determination, learning about good practices from the regional context.
The leading persons of the workshops are HR personnel development specialists for the Leadership Advanced workshop at Kantonsspital St. Gallen; Freya Preis, Project Manager for Inhouse Trainings at concada GmbH for environmental protection seminars; and specialist moderators from strategy development firms who facilitate and lead the strategy development workshops tailored to the employees’ expertise. Specific individual names for the strategy workshops are not provided.
Registration for the event and the workshops is required by Friday, September 5, 2025. All information about the event can be found on the website uni-our-website/diversity-day. The city, county, and University of Göttingen have signed the Charta der Vielfalt, committing to respect and value all people regardless of age, gender, origin, religion, disability, or sexual orientation. More information about the Charta der Vielfalt can be found at charta-der-vielfalt.de.
Please note that the event series does not specify what "political neutrality in the workplace" means. The workshops will run from 10:00 to 13:00 on September 8, 2025, at the New Town Hall. We encourage everyone to attend and contribute to a more diverse and inclusive workplace.
