Germany's Nagelsmann Aims for Dominance in World Cup Qualifiers

Julian Nagelsmann, the German national team coach, has expressed his ambition for a dominant performance in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers. Despite several key player absences, Nagelsmann is confident that his team can assert their dominance in the six games against Slovakia, Northern Ireland, and Luxembourg.

Nagelsmann's focus on dominance is not new, with the word becoming his current favourite. In an effort to achieve this, the coach plans to field a refreshed central defense, potentially replacing Jonathan Tah and Antonio Rüdiger due to their recent poor performances. Players like Waldemar Anton and Robert Andrich are being considered as starters in central defense positions.

Strengthening the center is a key objective for Nagelsmann's tactical changes. Newcomer Nnamdi Collins from Eintracht Frankfurt appears tailor-made for the role, but Nagelsmann is not yet sure if he trusts Collins with the position. Joshua Kimmich, the captain of the German national team, is being shifted from his position as right-back to defensive midfield, a move that could allow him to contribute more of his strengths.

Kimmich will lead the team in the last training unit before the start of the qualifiers. Nagelsmann is keeping changes in the overall structure and on the defensive right flank under wraps for now. A fluid system with a defensively-oriented right-back who can fall back into a back three with Jonathan Tah and Antonio Rüdiger seems likely.

Nagelsmann and his closest confidants held a strategy and tactics seminar in a stylish "hut" in the Allgäu mountains. The new hierarchy must form and prove itself by November due to key player absences.

Serge Gnabry described the upcoming task as qualifying as the most important thing. Nagelsmann has acknowledged the necessity for tactical adaptation and has overtaken Jürgen Klinsmann in terms of tenure as national team coach. However, his points record after 23 games is modest compared to many of his predecessors, with an average of 1.83 points.

Nagelsmann has expressed a goal of winning the World Cup as a realistic and not an arrogant goal. Despite a negative record in knockout games, with two wins, one draw, and three losses after the EM and Nations League, the coach remains optimistic. The coach's record in these games, however, may not be a concern for the team, as they focus on the task at hand - qualifying for the World Cup.

Rudi Völler, a former German national team player, spoke at the edge of the training ground a few hours earlier. Nagelsmann has also expressed a willingness to wear the Germany jersey for motivational purposes during the World Cup qualifiers. The team's preparations for the qualifiers are well underway, and the players are eager to demonstrate dominance on the field.
