Worldwide redheads invited for festive gathering in Dutch city
The Redhead Days festival, a unique event that celebrates the vibrant community of natural redheads, is set to return in 2025. Originating as an art project in the Netherlands, this festival has grown into a multiday event that attracts thousands of attendees from around the world.
The festival, which will be hosted in the southern Dutch city of Tilburg, offers a delightful mix of music, food trucks, and workshops. However, it's the workshops that cater specifically to the needs of redheads that truly set the Redhead Days festival apart. These workshops range from makeup explainers to sessions on skin cancer prevention, tailored to the unique characteristics of red hair and skin.
One such attendee, Elounda Bakker, a Dutch festival veteran, has attended the Redhead Days festival for an impressive 15 times. Elounda initially attended out of curiosity but continues to return year after year, not just for the festivities, but for the friendships she's formed with redheads from all corners of the globe.
Magician Daniel Hank, who traveled six hours from Germany to attend the festival, also finds solace in the Redhead Days festival. Having been bullied for his red hair in the past, Daniel now proudly flaunts it at the festival.
The Redhead Days festival has a long-standing tradition, tracing its roots back to a call for 15 red-haired models for an art project by Dutch artist Bart Rouwenhorst. Bart, who has overseen the festival since its inception, stated that the festival is "really amazing because all the people, they resemble each other and they feel like it's a family."
One of the most iconic traditions of the Redhead Days festival is the group photo on Sunday, which is restricted to "natural" redheads. This tradition, which began two decades ago, saw a record-breaking 1,672 people participate in the 2013 edition, setting a Guinness World Record for the "largest gathering of people with natural red hair."
Despite being a free event, the group photo on Sunday is the only part of the festival that requires a fee. The remainder of the festival is open to all, offering a wonderful opportunity for everyone to celebrate the unique beauty of red hair.
The Redhead Days festival in 2025 will be under the supervision of Dutch artist Bart Rouwenhorst, with the specific supervisor's name beyond Bart yet to be announced. Regardless, the anticipation for the event is palpable, as it is expected to draw several thousand attendees from approximately 80 countries.
So, whether you're a proud redhead or simply someone who admires the vibrant hue, the Redhead Days festival is an event not to be missed. Mark your calendars for the Redhead Days festival 2025 and join the global community in celebrating the beauty of red hair.
