Worldwide return of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class convertible confirmed

The automotive world is abuzz with the news that Mercedes-Benz is set to expand its G-Class portfolio with the return of the G-Class Cabriolet. This open-top version of the hardcore off-roader is expected to make its grand debut at the 2025 Munich motor show, following in the footsteps of its predecessor that first graced the scene in 1979.

Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Källenius will discuss the brand's future model strategy at the 2025 Munich motor show, providing further insights into the company's plans for this iconic vehicle. The new G-Class Cabriolet will share familiar G-Class styling cues, with a silhouette similar to the existing model, but featuring a shortened roofline and hinting at a folding roof mechanism integrated into the rear.

The new open-top off-roader could potentially be offered with a choice of diesel, petrol, and electric drivetrains. However, the initial launch is expected to be exclusively as the 430 kW/585 PS G63 AMG version. The production of the first G-Class cabriolet continued up to 2013, and the return of this model marks a significant step forward in Mercedes-Benz's commitment to its off-road heritage.

The G-Class portfolio has seen the introduction of unique and luxurious vehicles such as the G650 Landaulet in 2017. This ultra-luxury four-door vehicle featured a front hard top and a rear folding roof section, and was produced in a limited run of 99 units, with a price close to Β£600,000 in the UK.

While no launch timing for the new G-Class cabriolet has been disclosed, it is expected to be built and developed by Mercedes-Benz, with the model appearing earliest in 2027. The new G-Class Cabriolet will be offered almost everywhere in the world, including the US, making this open-air off-roader accessible to a global audience.

The return of the G-Class cabriolet recalls a lineage of open-air G-Class models that stretches back to 1979. As we eagerly await the unveiling of the new G-Class Cabriolet at the 2025 Munich motor show, we can only imagine the excitement and anticipation that this iconic vehicle will bring to the world of off-roading.

Technical details for the new G-Class cabriolet have yet to be released, but with Mercedes-Benz's reputation for innovation and quality, we can expect nothing less than extraordinary. Stay tuned for more updates as we delve deeper into the world of the new G-Class Cabriolet.
