Wörth on the Danube experiences shift in Gasthaus Butz ownership

In the heart of Worth, the historic Gasthaus Butz, a symbol of the city's identity, has found a new lease of life. The news was announced by Mayor Josef Schuetz in August 2025, with Matthias Kulzer emerging as the entrepreneur who has acquired the business shares of Butz Operating GmbH.

The journey to this point was not without its challenges. Initially, the district had purchased the property in 2019 with the intention of securing expansion areas for its hospital. However, the COVID-19 pandemic and the energy crisis delayed the original plan for the property transfer, which was set for January 1, 2023.

Throughout this period, the Worth city council and district council, particularly Hospital Director Martin Rederer and Mayor Schuetz, played a crucial role in maintaining the operation. The city politically supported the goal of preserving the Butz and actively participated in the GmbH.

To ensure the continued operation, the district and the city of Worth am Danube founded a joint operating GmbH. Tanja Schweiger, District Councilor, expressed her gratitude to all involved for their commitment. Kulzer, the new owner, also expressed his thanks to the employees for their loyalty and commitment.

The goal was to preserve the Butz as a traditional inn for guests near and far, including a butcher shop and accommodation. The Mayor of Worth, Josef Schuetz, is pleased that a buyer has been found for the Gasthaus Butz. He sees the new owner as a chance to preserve the tradition of the Gasthaus Butz and set fresh impulses for the future.

Schuetz also disclosed that the necessary land for the hospital was only available as part of the entire ensemble, so the Butz operating area also went to the district in 2019. This included the associated real estate. Despite the challenges, neither the city nor the district used public funds for this investment.

Initially, neither a tenant nor a buyer could be found due to the crisis. However, with Kulzer's acquisition, the Gasthaus Butz is now poised for a new chapter, ready to welcome guests and continue its role as a beacon of Worth's history and identity.
