WSOP 2025 Update: Can you decipher the code?
The World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event is currently underway, with Day 1C taking place on July 4th. Despite a decrease in attendance compared to the same day last year, the event still attracted a significant number of players.
Bin Weng, the 2023 WPT Player of the Year, is one of the standout players in Day 1C, with a stack of 350K, one of the highest totals in the day. Other notable players who made it through Day 1C include Jon Kyte, Erick Lindgren, Victoria Livschitz, Lucas Greenwood, and Andriy Lyubovetskiy, a two-time bracelet winner who is close to 400K in chips.
The WSOP Main Event set a new record for attendance in 2025, with 9,735 entries, making it the third-largest field in WSOP Main Event history. This generated a prize pool of $90,535,500. The Main Event started on July 2 with four starting flights, ending with the final table played on July 15-16.
Interestingly, the first two starting flights had more entries than last year, with Day 1A having 8 more players and Day 1B having 265 more players. However, Day 1C saw a decrease in attendance, with 1,678 entries compared to 2,528 in the same day last year.
Despite the lower attendance in Day 1C, the event is expected to be busy, especially with late registration for Day 2 still available. Notable players such as Daniel Negreanu, Michael Mizrachi, and Phil Hellmuth have already booked their seats for Day 2.
Meanwhile, the $800 Summer Celebration event is also making headlines. The event started its second day with 361 players and a mission to play down to 1, with a prize pool of $3,698,201 and a first-place prize of $504,180. Ryo Kotake and Giuseppe Zarbo are duking it out heads-up in this event.
The WSOP has attracted players from various locations, and the event is considering the possibility of setting a new record for attendance for the third year in a row. In a separate tournament, Eric Wasserson and Mike Gorodinsky are in a finely balanced duel for the $10K Championship's Eight Game Mixed title and a prize of $422,421.
In a separate event, Nick Ahmadi won the $600 Deepstack Championship and $302,165 in prize money.
The WSOP Main Event continues to be a thrilling spectacle, with many high-stakes games and exciting matchups still to come. Stay tuned for more updates from the World Series of Poker.
