Wyoming Police Highlight Incident of Ineptitude in Mustang Driving, Using Officer as Example
In a harrowing incident on the Beartooth Highway, a Ford Mustang lost control near mile marker 27 in Park County, Wyoming, on August 31. The crash occurred during a long sweeping left-hand hairpin turn, and was captured on video by a tourist.
The Mustang, reportedly barreling down the road before the crash, left the road surface before the exit of the turn. It hit a rock and tumbled through the air, causing quite a spectacle. Fortunately, the driver was flown to Billings for medical care and released the same night with no serious injuries.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol investigated the incident and found that it was not caused by a hard swerve or snap oversteer, but rather a lack of grip of the front tires to complete the turn. The driver was cited for careless driving.
Local authorities, including the Park County Sheriff's Office, Montana Highway Patrol, Park County Fire, and a local towing service, were involved in the incident.
Officers from the Wyoming Highway Patrol reminded motorists to exercise extra caution on sharp mountain roads like the Beartooth Highway. They urged motorists to make smart decisions on the road, scan ahead, pay attention, obey the rules of the road, and slow down.
It is worth noting that despite the incident, no publicly available detailed records about the crash exist. Additionally, no further information was provided about the second car in the oncoming lane.
The Beartooth Highway, a popular route for tourists heading to or from Yellowstone National Park, has a reputation for its challenging roads. This incident serves as a reminder to all drivers to approach such roads with caution and respect for the road conditions.
