Xbox unveils unique "Breaker" editions for its controllers, set for release in September's latter half

The Xbox team has unveiled a new lineup of special edition controllers, the Breaker series, which are now available for preorder via the Microsoft Store. The Breaker series includes three unique designs: the Ice Breaker, Storm Breaker, and Heart Breaker.

The Ice Breaker controller is themed after snow and frozen seawater, making it a perfect fit for those who enjoy winter-themed games. The Storm Breaker controller, on the other hand, boasts a metallic D-pad and a black-and-white color scheme, giving it a sleek and stylish look. The Heart Breaker controller, with its splashy blue, pink, and purple design, is sure to catch the eye of gamers who appreciate a more vibrant aesthetic.

All Breaker special edition controllers are built in the design of the regular Xbox Series X|S controller, ensuring a comfortable and familiar gaming experience. The Storm Breaker and Heart Breaker controllers are slated to launch on Sept. 9, 2025, while the Ice Breaker controller will be available at a later date.

In addition to the Breaker series, the Xbox Design Lab is also getting several new options later this year, including a refresh of some previous limited edition Xbox controllers such as the DOOM: The Dark Ages and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt 10th Anniversary designs. This gives players another chance to customize with designs that were previously hard to find.

The Witcher 3 controllers, in particular, sold out extremely fast upon announcement, highlighting the popularity of these limited edition designs. The writer, who already owns the regular versions of the DOOM and Witcher controllers, is curious about which new Breaker controller or Xbox Design Lab controller players plan to purchase.

If the writer were to purchase a new controller, it would likely be the Ice Breaker due to its resemblance to the art direction of Gears 5. However, the writer does mention a limit to the number of controllers they would like to have.

The writer hopes this strategy of selling out quickly will be applied to all Xbox Limited Edition controllers moving forward, ensuring that these special designs remain coveted items among the gaming community.
