Yakutia leads in birth rate, officially confirmed

In the territory of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), July 8 was marked as Family, Love, and Faithfulness Day. The regional department of the federal statistics service reported that a total of 5,568 marriages were officially registered in the same region during the year 2020.

According to recent data, Yakutia ranks first among the regions of the Far East in terms of birth rate, with a rate of approximately 15.4 per 1000 population. This high birth rate has been consistent, with 5318 children born in the first half of 2024 alone. The gender distribution of these newborns is balanced, with 2656 boys and 2662 girls welcomed into the world.

Interestingly, the majority of these newborns are not first-time arrivals. In 2023, 72% of children born in Yakutia were either second-born (40%), third-born (24%), or later siblings. In contrast, 28% were firstborns, indicating a relatively high rate of family growth.

When it comes to marriage, Yakutia also boasts impressive figures. In 2023, a total of 5568 marriages were registered in the region. The age at which men and women typically get married in Yakutia is 24 for men and 25 for women.

The busiest months for marriages in Yakutia are June and December, with the highest number of nuptials taking place during these periods. As for the oldest man to get married in 2023, his identity remains undisclosed.

On July 8, 2024, 29 couples submitted applications for marriage registration, reflecting the ongoing trend of marriage in the region.

In the larger context of Russia, Yakutia ranks eighth in terms of birth rate, highlighting its unique position among the country's regions. These demographic trends paint a picture of a vibrant and growing community in the heart of the Far East.
