Yakutsk's mayor reveals the individuals authorized to peddle alcohol during the prohibition period
Yakutsk, the largest city in Siberia, is celebrating the start of the academic year on September 1st, known locally as Knowledge Day, and its City Day on September 14th. To ensure a safe and sober celebration, the city's mayor, Evgeny Grigoryev, has implemented strict alcohol prohibition measures.
The alcohol ban, which will be in effect from 00:00 to 23:59 on both days, applies only to retail alcohol sales. Liquor stores in Yakutsk will be closed on September 1st, while the sale of alcohol in these establishments will be prohibited on City Day as well.
However, bars, clubs, and "pouring establishments" can still sell alcohol during the specified dates. Evgeny Grigoryev made this decision to reduce the likelihood of incidents, illegal activities, and prevent young people from seeing drunk people in public.
To enforce the ban, Evgeny Grigoryev has organised increased police patrols and checkpoints in public places. Residents and visitors are encouraged to report any violations of the alcohol ban to the police or by messaging Evgeny Grigoryev directly on his VKontakte page.
Evgeny Grigoryev, who serves as the head of Yakutsk, is known for his active engagement with the city's residents. He communicates with them regularly through his Telegram channel and VKontakte page.
It's worth noting that these restrictions do not apply to catering establishments (restaurants, bars, etc.) on both September 1st and September 14th. Evgeny Grigoryev concluded by wishing a sober Knowledge Day and City Day to all residents and visitors of Yakutsk.
