In a series of escalating attacks, the Houthi rebels in Yemen have targeted Ramon Airport in southern Israel, causing a light injury to a 63-year-old man and suspending all airport activities.

Eight drones were fired by the Houthi military towards several regions of Israel, with Ramon Airport being one of the targets. The airport authority confirmed that a drone fell in the passenger hall of the airport. The Israeli Air Force successfully intercepted three other drones before they could enter Israeli territory.

The incident occurred after the Israeli Air Force had previously intercepted drones from Yemen. This recent attack follows the Israeli strike that killed Ahmed al-Rahawi, the Houthi rebel leader and prime minister, in Sanaa on August 28, 2023. The Houthis have vowed to avenge his death.

The Houthi rebels have been increasing their strikes against Israel and Israeli-related ships off Yemen since the start of the Gaza war in 2023, claiming solidarity with the Palestinians. The attacks have decimated half of the Houthi government.

The 63-year-old man was lightly injured by debris from a drone at Ramon Airport. Magen David Adom, Israel's equivalent of the Red Cross, is treating him for debris wounds in his legs. The exact cause of his injuries is not specified in the report.

Following the incident, all airport activities have been suspended. The Israeli Air Force did not specify how it intercepted the drones. The Houthis have claimed responsibility for the strike that hit Ramon Airport.

The Houthi military spokesman, Mr. Saree, has promised an intensification of military operations. The recent attacks mark a significant escalation in the conflict between Israel and the Houthi rebels.
