In a shocking turn of events, Israel has confirmed the killing of Yemen's Prime Minister, Ahmed al-Rahawi, and several other ministers in an IDF attack in Sanaa, Yemen. The attack, which took place in the Hadda area, west of the presidential palace in Sanaa, has resulted in widespread condemnation and increased security restrictions in the city.

The attack on August 28, 2025, claimed the life of Prime Minister al-Rahawi and left other ministers injured, some seriously. The Houthi presidency emphasised that the government will continue to perform its functions in managing affairs, despite the losses.

Meanwhile, the chief of staff of the Houthi movement, Muhammad Abdel-Karim al-Ghammari, disappeared under the rubble during the Sanaa operation and is estimated to have died. Before the assassination attempt, al-Ghammari had been a key figure in the Houthi movement.

The international community has reacted strongly to the attack. Hamas, a Palestinian political and militant organisation, described the attack as a "terrible crime" and a "flagrant violation of the sovereignty of an Arab state." They also thanked Al Rahawi and Houthi leaders for their support during the war in Gaza. Hamas further denounced the attack as a "heinous crime" and vowed to continue supporting and defending the residents of Gaza.

In response to the attack, new security restrictions have been imposed in Sanaa, and an arrest and investigation campaign has been launched against citizens accused of "collaborating with the attack." A threatening message was issued, promising to continue supporting the Palestinian people and developing capabilities to face challenges and dangers.

The area where the attack occurred, Hadda, houses diplomatic delegations and the residences of leaders who occupied the residences of opposition figures in the province. According to the website of the Yemeni opposition 'Defense Line', the Houthis have imposed severe security measures in the Hadda area following the attack.

This tragic event has heightened tensions in the region, with both Israel and the Houthi movement vowing to continue their respective struggles. The international community will be closely watching developments in Yemen in the coming days.
