Yokohama Rubber Company to Establish New Plant in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico

In a significant development for the automotive industry in Mexico, the Yokohama Rubber Company announced the construction of a new plant in Saltillo, Coahuila. The investment for the plant is a substantial 380 million US dollars, and it is set to begin construction on Monday, April 19, 2024.

The plant, located in the industrial zone of Derramadero, south of Saltillo, will primarily focus on the production of automobile tires, catering to the North American market, a crucial market for the company. Masataka Yamaishi, the president of Yokohama Rubber, stated that this move will improve the economic fabric and strengthen ties between Mexico and the company's home nation.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by the state governor, Manolo Jimeฬnez, who highlighted the factors that attracted Yokohama to Coahuila. These include the state's safety, competitiveness, energy, water, land, and qualified labor. Jeff Barna, the president of YTC, mentioned that the establishment of the new factory will improve the quality of products and establish a closer relationship with customers.

The plant is expected to generate 1,100 direct jobs, a significant boost to the local employment market. However, no mention was made of any other companies investing or establishing operations in Coahuila in the current announcement.
