In the Altenburger Land district, a fire broke out at the concrete plant in Schmölln on Sunday afternoon. The blaze, which lasted over ten hours, has caused significant damage to the facility and left an area of 2,500 square meters affected.

According to initial reports, two warehouses at the concrete plant were fully engulfed in the fire. The roofs of these warehouses collapsed due to the intensity of the fire. The fire department's operations leader, Mirko Kolz, confirmed the presence of forklifts and excavators in the halls during the fire. At its peak, 90 personnel were on site to extinguish the fire. The fire was finally brought under control, thanks to the combined efforts of the fire department and the Gera control center.

During the fire, two children aged nine and ten were found at the scene. They were discovered with soot-covered faces and breathing difficulties.
