Zeulenroda tribes aim to secure longest dog-leash record with sock accessories

The picturesque town of Zeulenroda-Triebes, nestled in Thuringia's Vogtland region (district of Greiz), is gearing up for an extraordinary event. In celebration of its 700th anniversary, the town, in collaboration with the city administration, is attempting to break the world record for the "longest clothesline with the most socks."

This record-breaking attempt is a testament to the town's rich history, which has long been linked to the sock-making industry. The motivation behind Zeulenroda-Triebes' record attempt is the 700th anniversary of the town's first mention in writing, a milestone being celebrated this year.

The collection drive for this unique event has been ongoing, with support from city administrations across Germany. Approximately 150,000 socks, 130,000 clothespins, and washing lines with a total length of over 14 kilometers have been gathered.

AndrΓ© Bauer from the city administration has confirmed that the socks can be either washed or completely unworn clothing items. The socks, whether washed or unworn, will be hung on the line in the Waldstadion by residents, visitors, and voluntary record enthusiasts.

The current world record for the "longest clothesline with the most socks" is held by the Rotary Club of Port Macquarie West, with 107,886 socks on a line 10.08 kilometers long. It is unclear whether Zeulenroda-Triebes will break this record, as the unofficial announcement is expected in the evening.

The official record announcement for this event is expected in a few days, after the documentation of the action has been evaluated by the official record-keeping institute for Germany. The organization holding the current record is not specified in public sources.

This record-breaking attempt is not just a celebration of Zeulenroda-Triebes' 700th anniversary but also a symbol of the town's vibrant community spirit and its continued connection to the sock-making industry. The record attempt is expected to attract visitors from far and wide, making it a memorable occasion for all.
