Zimbabwe secures a knee-jerk victory against Sri Lanka, bowling them out for a paltry 80 in the T20 series.

In a closely contested match, Zimbabwe secured a five-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the second match of their cricket series, setting up a decisive third and final encounter on Sunday.

The Sri Lankan batting lineup struggled in the second match, with Kamil Mishara being the top scorer for the team, scoring a run-a-ball 20. Charith Asalanka, the captain of the Sri Lankan team, and Dasun Shanaka were the only other batters to score double digits, as Sri Lanka were all out for 80 runs – their second lowest T20 total.

Zimbabwe's bowlers, led by Sikandar Raza and Brad Evans, inflicted significant damage, with both taking 3 wickets each. The Sri Lankan team lost too many wickets in the powerplay, according to Asalanka, and struggled to build a strong foundation.

In response, Zimbabwe started off shakily, slumping to 27-3. However, Brian Bennett and Ryan Burl put on 26 runs for the fourth wicket, bringing Zimbabwe within sight of victory. Tashinga Musekiwa sealed the deal with fours off the first and second deliveries of the 14th over, ensuring Zimbabwe's victory with 34 balls remaining.

Asalanka expressed his disappointment with the pitch, believing it to be a 130 to 140-run pitch. He also highlighted the importance of maintaining a strong batting performance to compete with Zimbabwe's bowling attack.

The third and final match of the series promises to be an exciting conclusion, with both teams eager to secure a series win. The captaincy of the Sri Lankan team in the 2025 season was held by Dasun Shanaka, and they will be looking to bounce back from their second match defeat. Sikandar Raza, the captain of the Zimbabwe team, will be hoping to lead his team to a series victory.
