Zoo officials are yet to reveal the name of the freshly born giraffe calf.
The Leipzig Zoo is gearing up for a special event on September 13, as the K!DZ Giant Children's Festival will take place at the zoo. This fundraising event for children's causes will be separate from the Discover Days Newcomers event, scheduled for September 20/21.
The main attraction of the K!DZ Giant Children's Festival will be the recently born Rothschild giraffe calf, who is barely five weeks old. The little one will be the centre of attention, with the Leipzig Zoo seeking name suggestions for the newborn that connect to the animals' natural habitat south of the Sahara.
The first round of the naming search will run until September 8, with some favourite submissions to be selected for an internet vote. The name announcement will be made on World Children's Day, and it's important to note that the K!DZ Giant Children's Festival is not related to the naming contest for the giraffe calf.
The event will feature interactive stations and a musical-artistic stage program, with performers such as the Thomaner youth choir and "Frank with his Zappeltier" set to entertain visitors. Donations for children will also be collected during the festival.
In addition to the naming contest, the Leipzig Zoo is inviting the public to submit suitable name suggestions via its website. The K!DZ Giant Children's Festival is a wonderful opportunity for families to enjoy a day out at the zoo, while supporting a good cause and witnessing the adorable Rothschild giraffe calf in person.
